REAP2SOW: Resilient and Efficient Agricultural Proteins to Sustain Our World
The REAPsSOW consortia receives around 6.8 million to start immediately.
REAPsSOW- research
What if your plate could help build a healthier Netherlands? REAP2SOW explores how promising new protein-rich crops – quinoa, white lupin, and aardaker– can contribute to a healthy, sustainable, and plant-based food system. From soil to supper, REAP2SOW brings science and society together: breeders, farmers, researchers, and consumers collaborate to enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, develop innovative farming practices, and promote nutritious, flavourful choices that support a healthy and future-proof diet. With an eye on history, innovation, and behavioural change, REAP2SOW is sowing the seeds today for the food of tomorrow.
In REAP2SOW, farmers, scientists, companies and citizens join forces to explore the potential of three lesser-known crops: white lupin, quinoa, and the ‘forgotten vegetable’ aardaker.
These crops:
Provide high-quality plant proteins
Support biodiversity and soil health
Are well-suited to the Dutch climate
Help reduce reliance on imported soy
“With REAP2SOW, we want to do more than just replace meat,” says project leader Wouter Kohlen. “We want to grow a food system that is better for people, nature and farmers, and that fits well within Dutch landscapes.”
