SUMMARY:EPS Theme 4 Symposium "Genome Biology and Gene Regulation"
DESCRIPTION:EPS Theme 4 Symposium “Genome Biology and Gene Regulation” \nDuring the theme 4 symposium\, junior and senior researchers present and discuss how the interaction between genes\, molecules\, and epigenetic mechanisms leads to complex physical traits. For a plant to function optimally\, precise gene expression regulation and the inactivation of transposons are essential. The presented research covers diverse disciplines\, including genetics\, bioinformatics\, and plant breeding. Due to this broad scope and the central role of genome data\, this field is intimately connected with other biological themes. Learn more about it and join the EPS Theme 4 symposium.\n\n\n\n\nDate: 9 December 2026 \nTime: 09:00-17:30 \nLocation: Science Park\, Amsterdam \nFee: free for EPS members\, non-EPS members €75\, Industry €150* \n*You may cancel free of charge up to 1 month before. There is a no-show fee.  \nRegistration: open \nDeadline for registration: 25 November 2026 \nOrganizers: Maike Stam (UvA)\, Aalt-Jan van Dijk (UvA) and Juliane Teapal (EPS) \nPresent your research! \nAre you an EPS PhD candidate or postdoc and would you like to present your research at this symposium? Contact the organising committee and send them a summary (3-5 sentences) of your research. In case there are not sufficient spots\, we will do a selection.

SUMMARY:EPS workshop "Single-cell genomics in plants".
DESCRIPTION:Gene expression is regulated in response to developmental and environmental cues and enables organisms to respond appropriately to internal and external signals. Because gene-regulatory programs are often different across cell types\, cell-specific transcriptional responses are typically not observed when profiling gene expression in whole organs or tissues. However\, emerging single-cell genomic technologies\, including transcriptomics\, are being used to characterize gene expression dynamics at unprecedented resolution. In addition to profiling cell-type specific responses in gene expression\, single-cell transcriptomics is being used to discover new cell types\, track cellular differentiation and predict gene-regulatory networks. Although single-cell transcriptomics techniques are typically more challenging in plants (e.g. due to presence of cell walls)\, recent technological advances are revolutionizing how we characterize gene regulation. \nIn this three-day workshop\, a combination of external and local speakers will present various topics related to single-cell transcriptomics in plants. Presentations will cover the latest technologies and computational approaches employed during single-cell transcriptomics experiments\, as well as how these single-cell approaches are being used to address both fundamental and applied research questions in plants. Hands-on wet lab training will be given during the first two days.  During the computer practicals\, participants will also learn how to analyze and visualize single-cell transcriptomic datasets. Altogether\, we aim for this course to help plant researchers design\, execute and analyze single-cell transcriptomics experiments\, and explore up-and-coming single-cell genomic applications. \n  \nDate: 09. – 11. February 2027 \nLocation: Wageningen Campus\, The Netherlands \nParticipants (max 25): PhD candidates and postdocs \nRegistration: opens soon \nOrganizers: Michael Nodine (WUR)\, Victoria Mironova (RU)\, Carolin Grones (WUR)\, Michael Schon (WUR) and Juliane Teapal (EPS) \nContact: Juliane Teapal
