SUMMARY:EPS Theme 4 Symposium "Genome Biology and Gene Regulation" - Dec 2026
DESCRIPTION:EPS Theme 4 Symposium “Genome Biology and Gene Regulation” \nDuring the theme 4 symposium\, junior and senior researchers present and discuss how the interaction between genes\, molecules\, and epigenetic mechanisms leads to complex physical traits. For a plant to function optimally\, precise gene expression regulation and the inactivation of transposons are essential. The presented research covers diverse disciplines\, including genetics\, bioinformatics\, and computational biology\, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. Due to this broad scope and the central role of genome data\, this field is intimately connected with other biological themes. Learn more about it and join the EPS Theme 4 symposium.\n\nKeynote speakers\nAgnieszka Golicz (WUR)\nAgnieszka studies the genetic and molecular foundations of agronomically important traits.\nhttps://www.wur.nl/en/news/new-wur-chair-plant-breeding-tech-revolution-boosting-crop-improvement\n\nClementine Vitte\, Université Paris-Saclay\, INRAE;\nClémentine’s main research interest is to understand the contribution of transposable elements (TEs) to plant genome evolution.\nhttps://moulon.inrae.fr/en/personnes/cvitte/\n\n  \nDate: 9 December 2026 \n\nTime: 09:00-17:30 \nLocation: Science Park\, Amsterdam \nFee: free for EPS members\, non-EPS members €75\, Industry €150* \n*You may cancel free of charge up to 1 month before. There is a no-show fee.  \nRegistration: open \nDeadline for registration: 25 November 2026 \nOrganizers: Maike Stam (UvA)\, Aalt-Jan van Dijk (UvA) and Juliane Teapal (EPS) \nPresent your research! \nAre you an EPS PhD candidate or postdoc and would you like to present your research at this symposium? Contact the organising committee and send them a summary (3-5 sentences) of your research. In case there are not sufficient spots\, we will do a selection. \nDeadline: 30 October 2026

SUMMARY:EPS/VLAG Advanced Course ‘Microscopy and Spectroscopy in Food and Plant Sciences’ - Feb 2027
DESCRIPTION:EPS/VLAG Advanced Course ‘Microscopy and Spectroscopy in Food and Plant Sciences’\nThe MicroSpectroscopy Research Facility ( MSC) and the Wageningen Light Microscopy Centre (WLMC) of Wageningen University are jointly organizing an advanced practical course\, funded by VLAG & EPS\, for PhD candidates\, postdocs\, and candidates from industry. The course will cover both theoretical and hands-on training in a range of advanced. \nThe course touches all aspects of imaging\, from proper sample preparation to a fundamental understanding of the optics of image and contrast formation\, including key concepts like resolution\, diffraction\, and image generation\, to image processing.  With a focus on confocal fluorescence imaging and the currently available range of probes\, participants will gain an overview of all bright-field imaging techniques available at WUR. Advanced imaging methods like spinning disk\, multiphoton\, multispectral\, TIRF\, FRET\, FLIM\, and STED will be explored to obtain quantitative data on molecular localization and interactions at super-resolution either in living cells or in complex food samples.  Practical sessions include imaging experiments carried out (demo) in small groups of max. 6 participants. \nIn addition\, we have included a Fiji/ImageJ tutorial (hands-on) to introduce the basics of data processing and to guide participants in identifying suitable algorithms for their quantitative research questions. The overall aim is to equip participants with a clear understanding of how to select appropriate imaging methods and apply effective data processing strategies tailored to their project research needs. \n \nDate: 01 – 03 February 2027 \nLocation: Radix and Helix\, Wageningen Campus \nFee: \nEarly bird\, until 30 October 2026 \n€275 for PhD candidates of EPS/Vlag with an accepted TSP and WGS PhD candidates with accepted TSP \n€400 for postdocs registered with EPS \n€520 EPS/Vlag staff members \n€1040 WUR/University staff members \n€2000 Industry \nUntil 12 december 2026 \n€325 for PhD candidates of EPS/Vlag with an accepted TSP and WGS PhD candidates with accepted TSP \n€450 for postdocs registered with EPS \n€570 EPS/Vlag staff members \n€1090 WUR/University staff members \n€2050 Industry \nRegistration: open (deadline 12 December 2026) \nParticipants: max 24* \n*During your registration you will be asked to fill in your motivation to join the course. If there are more submissions\, than spots available\, we select the participants based on this motivation.  \nCoordinator: Juliane Teapal (EPS)

SUMMARY:Annual Meeting Experimental Plant Sciences Apr 2027
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, around 475 members of the Dutch plant science community gather for a two-day meeting\, making it the premier event for networking and collaboration. This annual meeting is a unique opportunity for young plant scientists to connect with established researchers across the Netherlands\, engage with cutting-edge research\, and explore potential collaborations through mini-meetings. \nFor alumni from abroad\, it’s an excellent chance to stay updated on the latest developments in Dutch plant sciences. The event also attracts representatives from the plant science industry\, further enriching the discussions and opportunities available. \nFor an impression of the 2026 and 2025 Annual Meetings check the meeting website.
