SUMMARY:NanoBioPhysX course
DESCRIPTION:Course outline\nAs part of the course\, participants will organize one meet-the-speaker session\, be the chair of the meeting\, and write a small popular science feature about the seminar. Scientific Communication (SciComm) to non-experts has become an important transferable skill that every scientist should master. The popular science feature is therefore aimed at the general public\, and it will communicate the research presented by the invited speaker in an accessible way. It will be sent to Resource for publication\, posted on the NanoBioPhysX club website and further publicized via social media. Furthermore\, a workshop popular science communication is organised once per year. Successful completion of the course is based on the active participation in seminars and meet-the-speaker sessions\, the organization and chairing of meet-the-speaker sessions\, and the written feature. \nThis course aims to:\nImmerse participants in an interdisciplinary scientific environment and widen their scientific horizon.\nFoster scientific discussion and develop an interdisciplinary fundamental scientific community.\nGain societal outreach experience and improve popular science writing targeted at the general public. \nTarget group\nPhD candidates working on fundamental topics (experiment or theory) within the crossover field of nanotechnology\, biology\, physics and chemistry\, interested in broadening their academic scope and societal reach.

SUMMARY:Intermediate Programming in R
DESCRIPTION:Monday 3\, Friday 7\, Monday 10 and Friday 14 November 2025\nScope\nExtend participants’ basic knowledge of R by teaching them more advanced programming concepts and the use of R for more complex problem solving\, going beyond just statistics. This course is for participants who want to deepen their knowledge of R programming and be able to use R to deal efficiently with computational problems and programming tasks. Participants will also gain more knowledge on working with R data structures and solving common problems\, like working with and manipulating factors\, extracting information from statistical models\, working with other types of data (textual\, time and dates) and handling multiple data files. \nHighlights\nIntroduction to control flow and conditional logic in R\nCreating your own functions\, understanding anonymous functions\nIntroduction to functional programming with the package “purrr”\nWorking with factors\nWorking with the file system (importing\, transforming and combining multiple files)\nDebugging R code\nWorking with dates\, times\nShort introduction to creating reproducible documents (RMarkdown/Quarto) \nImportant\nThis course is not meant for R beginners. We strongly recommend that you first take part in our Introduction to R and R Studio workshop. Ideally\, you also have exposure to the tidyverse from our Tidy Data workshop\, but this is not required. Even self-taught R users are encouraged to first follow the introductory workshop to get a strong foundation of the basics that this course builds on.
