PhD candidates in their 3^rd year or in the final phase of the PhD trajectory are at a point in the PhD process where storytelling can make the difference: there is a lot of knowledge, but translating it into a clear, convincing story – for a PhD thesis, media attention, or a job interview – is a different type of skill.

How do you transform an abstract type of work into an engaging and human story? Storytelling is an essential, learnable skill that can transform dry facts into emotionally charged stories, through which the complex messages are better retained, more inspiring, and leading to action. Storytelling is crucial for (personal) leadership and communication, because it connects, builds trust, unites “head” with “heart”, and convinces people.

In this interactive workshop ‘academic adventurer’ and storyteller Brigitte Ars, will take us along on a journey that will cover the following topics:

What is storytelling? About the power, impact and magic of stories to change things.
The structure of a good story, the importance of a clear message and the power of concrete examples
Your PhD as a story. How do you translate your research of many years into a story that sticks?
Your story as a start for connecting with the media.
Your personal story. Who are you as a scientist, what drives you, and how do you tell your story at a job interview or at a conference?

Tip: Have lunch together with the other participants in the Impulse restaurant prior to the workshop (at your own costs), so you can catch up with each other. We can arrange a table if there is interest.
